━ St. Francis of Assisi

Francis was born in the small Umbrian city of Assisi in the year 1181 or 1182. His parents were Peter Bernardone and Picca. Peter was a wealthy textile merchant. Picca belonged to a distinguished French family. Born to such parents, Francis enjoyed plenty of wealth and a genial nature. The joy of life radiated through him made Francis the leader of the youth of Assisi. He was filled with dreams of grandeur. Slowly he understood the folly of this life. He became more and more aware of the divine promptings within him and developed a readiness to respond to them.
St. Francis of Assisi is a unique person who entered into the realm of perfection and who moved from being mundane to godliness and from vanities to eternal truths through a total conversion. This great sage has been a ray of hope for those who wait for a future where there is peace, equality and fraternity. St. Francis has been a messenger of peace and an ambassador of universal brotherhood for those who are waiting for the bright dawn of peace, equality and fraternity. He became the messenger of peace and love and a universal lover by partaking in the self-emptying of Jesus and by walking constantly in the path of conversion, self-renunciation and penance.
